A 22-year trial litigator, Kirkgaard joined Bullivant in 2008 to chair the California Employment Practice. She advises both employers and employees on a broad range of employment law issues, including: employment contracts and policies, employees’ rights, discrimination, leave law compliance, wage and hour, meal and rest breaks, termination and breaches of contracts, employment separations and RIFs, and litigation relating to these matters. Kirkgaard’s practice is focused on risk management and counseling to achieve pro-active, real world solutions. She has extensive experience in client representation and advocacy in many local and state-wide forums and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. She also advises on consultation (independent contractor) obligations and exemption audits, trade secret and unfair business practices, injunctions, day-to-day staff consultation issues and the drafting of personnel policy documents and other related documents.
Susan has considerable experience presenting educational and training seminars to ensure business clients establish best practices and risk management procedures to cope with the continuing flow of new regulations.
